The scheme of Sexist and Sexual Violence : A Literature Review

Victims of SSV in the workplace have started to raise their voices in those past years. Even with their recognition as a societal issue, SSV in the workplace are still happening and remain under reported. This literature review used existing literature to build a scheme of SSV. To understand first their antecedents, how and why SSV occur in the workplace. Second, to understand the victims’ and organizations’ responses dynamic to SSV. This part is important to figure out why the majority of women still not report their SSV situations and what part the organizations play in it. Third, to explain the consequences of SSV for victims and organizations. The consequences for the victims have already been intensely studied by literature however the organizations’ consequences have been given less attention. A theoretical circular scheme (Figure 3) has been developed throughout the literature review, steps of SSV scheme are connected to each other and work in dependence.
Awareness has been raised around SSV in the workplace and laws and regulations have been established. However, SSV remain, highlighting the emergency of effective and concrete organizational actions to stop and prevent SSV in the workplace.
